Options for Anxious Patients
At Dr. Firind Cox Dentisty, our dentist and team offer nitrous oxide sedation, also known as laughing gas, a safe form of sedation for our North York patients who are overly anxious or nervous about their dental procedures.
Feeling uneasy about visiting the dentist? We can help.
Many patients feel nervous, anxious and downright stressed at the prospect of undergoing a dental procedure — especially when the procedure is a long or complicated one. At Dr. Firind Cox Dentistry, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation to help our patients feel relaxed and at their ease throughout their dental procedures.
What is Nitrous Oxide?
Nitrous oxide is an effective sedative that your dentist may offer to help you feel a little more comfortable during your dental procedure.
It is also known as laughing gas due to the happy feelings it induces.
How does Nitrous Oxide work?
Nitrous oxide is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose, in order to help you relax.
It will not put you to sleep, and you will be able to hear and respond to requests and directions from your dentist throughout your procedure.
How does it feel?
After a few minutes of inhaling the nitrous oxide, you may feel somewhat light-headed, and some tingling or heaviness in your arms and legs. Overall, you'll find you feel very calm and relaxed, and whatever stress or anxiety you were feeling in anticipation of your dental procedure will seem to have melted away.
How long do the effects last?
The effects of the nitrous oxide will wear off in just a few minutes after the mask is removed.
Will I be able to drive after my appointment?
Yes! Because the effects of nitrous oxide wear off so quickly, you will be able to drive yourself home from your appointment just fine.
If you feel nervous about your upcoming dental appointment, contact us today to ask about nitrous oxide sedation.
